What Proper Appliance Installation Actually Takes

Most appliance installations look simple until something goes wrong. A dishwasher that leaks under the floor. A dryer vent that exhausts into the wall cavity instead of outside. A refrigerator water line with a compression fitting that holds for six months, then doesn't. Getting an appliance into place is half the job. Making sure the hookups are right, the clearances are safe, and the unit is level and operating correctly before we leave is the other half. Ahomeservices has been doing this kind of work for 14 years across the Greater Houston area. Call (832) 244-5652 to schedule your installation.

What drives the cost of an appliance installation up or down is usually access and scope. A freestanding range swap on an existing gas line is straightforward. A first-time dishwasher install that requires new cabinetry cuts, a drain tie-in, and an electrical circuit runs longer and costs more. Built-in refrigerators, over-the-range microwaves, and slide-in ranges all have their own clearance and connection requirements. We look at the actual job before we give you a number. Every job is different, contact Ahomeservices for an accurate estimate.

Appliances We Install

If it hooks up to water, gas, or an electrical circuit, we handle it.

01

Refrigerators

Freestanding, counter-depth, and built-in models. Water line connections for ice makers and door dispensers. We check the shut-off valve and the line itself before we connect anything.

02

Dishwashers

New installs and replacements. Drain tie-in to the garbage disposal or sink drain, water supply hookup, and electrical connection. We test the full wash cycle before we pack up.

03

Washers and Dryers

Top-load, front-load, stacked units. We handle supply hose connections, drain hose routing, and dryer vent runs. Gas dryer hookups included where an existing line is present.

04

Ranges and Ovens

Gas and electric. Slide-in and freestanding. Anti-tip bracket installation on every range we set. We verify gas pressure and check for leaks before the unit goes live.

05

Over-the-Range Microwaves

Wall and cabinet mounting with proper venting. These installs require more than most people expect. We bring the hardware to do it right without pulling cabinets.

06

Garbage Disposals

New installs and replacements. Wiring, mounting assembly, and drain connection. We run the unit with water flowing before we call it done.

How It Works

The Installation Process, Start to Finish

  1. 01

    We assess the hookups first

Before anything gets moved, we check the existing connections, shut-offs, and clearances. If there's a problem with the water line or the outlet, you find out before the old appliance comes out.

  2. 02

    We handle the swap

Old appliance out, new appliance in. All connections made, secured, and checked. Level set. Doors, drawers, and controls verified. Nothing gets pushed into place and left for you to figure out.

  3. 03

    We test before we leave

Every unit runs a full functional test on site. Dishwasher cycles, washer fills and drains, gas range ignites on every burner. If something isn't right, we fix it before we go.

What to Know

Common Installation Mistakes and How We Avoid Them

  1. Skipping the anti-tip bracket

A range without an anti-tip bracket can tip forward when a child hangs on the door. It's a code requirement. We install it on every range, every time, no exceptions.

  2. Wrong dryer vent material

Flexible foil duct is a fire hazard in dryer vent runs. We use rigid metal duct or UL-listed semi-rigid aluminum. If we find foil duct already in place, we'll tell you.

  3. Saddle valves on ice maker lines

Saddle valves are the leading cause of refrigerator water line leaks. We don't use them. If the existing shut-off is a saddle valve, we'll replace it with a proper compression or push-fit fitting.

When to Hire Out vs. Do It Yourself

Honestly, some appliance swaps are DIY-friendly. Replacing a freestanding electric dryer on existing hookups, with the right tools and a helper to move it, isn't complicated. Where it gets risky: gas connections, first-time dishwasher installs that require new cabinetry work, and anything involving an electrical circuit that doesn't already exist. We won't talk you into hiring us for a job you can handle yourself. But if there's a gas line involved, a drain tie-in you haven't done before, or an over-the-range microwave that needs wall anchoring and vent routing, that's exactly what we're here for. Our handyman services cover the surrounding work too, so you're not calling two different people when the job turns out to be bigger than the appliance swap.

What a Good Installation Covers

  1. 01

    Disconnect and removal

Old appliance shut off, disconnected, and cleared from the space. We haul it if you need that handled. Check our junk removal service.

  2. 02

    Positioning and leveling

Appliance set in place with correct clearances on all sides. Level checked on two axes. Slide-in ranges aligned with surrounding cabinetry.

  3. 03

    Connections and hardware

Every supply line, drain connection, gas fitting, and mounting bracket installed to spec. Anti-tip brackets on ranges. Vent runs on dryers.

  4. 04

    Functional test

Unit runs a full cycle or full operational test on site. We don't leave until it's working correctly.

Appliance Installation Questions

How much does appliance installation typically cost?
It varies a lot by appliance type and what the hookups require. A straightforward washer swap on existing connections runs less than a first-time dishwasher install that needs cabinet modifications and a new drain tie-in. Gas appliances add a connection check step. Anything requiring a new electrical circuit or vent run adds time and materials. Every job is different, contact Ahomeservices at (832) 244-5652 for an accurate estimate.
What does appliance installation usually include?
A proper installation covers disconnecting and removing the old unit, positioning and leveling the new one, making all supply, drain, gas, or electrical connections, installing required safety hardware like anti-tip brackets, and running a full functional test before we leave. What it doesn't include: the appliance itself, permit pulls if a new circuit is required, or cabinetry modifications beyond basic adjustments.
Do I need a permit for appliance installation?
Most appliance swaps on existing hookups don't require a permit. Installing a new gas line or adding a dedicated electrical circuit typically does, depending on local code. In the Greater Houston area, replacing an existing gas range or dishwasher on existing connections generally falls below the permit threshold, but if we're running new lines or circuits, we'll flag it and advise accordingly.
Can you haul away the old appliance when you install the new one?
Yes. We can disconnect, remove, and haul the old unit as part of the job. If you've got more than one item to clear out, our junk removal service handles that separately. Just let us know when you call so we account for it in the job scope.
What should I have ready before the installation crew arrives?
Know where your main water shut-off is, and locate the shut-off closest to the appliance if one exists. For gas appliances, confirm you know where the gas shut-off is. Clear a path from the entry point to the installation location, and measure the doorways and hallways the new appliance needs to pass through. Delivery damage and fitment problems almost always come from a path that wasn't cleared.
Do you install appliances bought from any retailer, or only specific brands?
We install appliances regardless of where you purchased them. Big-box store delivery, direct manufacturer, or a unit you picked up yourself. We're not tied to any retailer. If you need both delivery and installation coordinated, we can discuss timing, but the installation work itself is independent of where the appliance came from.
